Its name is a homage to the Carretto Castle, nicknamed “alla meridiana”; the atmosphere is that of a country villa in nearby Provence: great arches and awnings, exposed stone, old roof tiles, warm sunny colours. We’re at the exclusive La Meridiana Hotel & Golf Resort in Garlenda (Savona province), which since 1977 has offered guests a high-end hospitality experience with all the warmth of a private home.

The hotel was created by Luisa Berto de Segre a few years after her sister, Teresa Berto de Galleani, designed an 18-hole golf course for the resort, listed by The Sunday Times as one of the ten best in the world.

Since 1983 Edmondo Segre and his family have been in personal charge of La Meridiana, where luxury means a warm welcome and close attention to small details throughout the resort, from the rooms (10) and suites (16), to the restaurants and public spaces, the beautiful garden with a large stone-built swimming pool and the golf course.

An exceptional host with a passion for the good life and his local area, Edmondo also curates the excellent wine cellar and all aspects of the restaurants. It is thanks to his dedication that the kitchen has benefited from star chefs including Carlo Cracco, Karsten Heidsieck, Ernst Knam, Luigi Taglienti and Jorg Giubbani. There are two restaurants: the elegant and sophisticated Rosmarino, serving traditional Mediterranean food with a modern twist, and the Bistrot, with a more informal mood and an all-Ligurian menu; delicious light lunches are also served at the poolside.

There are plenty of opportunities for guests to experience the beauty and flavours of Liguria, such as tastings of local wines and olive oils, and cooking classes featuring pesto and fresh pasta, as well as sports activities like mountain bike excursions and fishing trips.
