Fondazione Palazzo Strozzi

Lo scoppio del carro
The Scoppio del Carro is a festival dating back to the period of the Crusades. A mediaeval cart is set alight, setting off an impressive firework display to spread “sacred fire” and good luck to the whole city. The event takes place on Easter Sunday at the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore.

Every May in the Renaissance gardens of Palazzo Corsini is an exhibition of crafts: Artigianato e Palazzo – Artisan workshops and their clients showcasing the best creations by master craftsmen. Every year around a hundred artisans are selected to be the absolute protagonists of this event. The majority of these craftsmen come from Tuscany, but there are also many from all over Italy and other countries. Along the exhibition itinerary set out in Giardino di Palazzo Corsini visitors can discover how artisans create their products, as they create them “live” in small workshops built in the gardens and the lemon houses.

Every September, the Stazione Leopolda in Florence hosts Fragranze, the international trade show that is now a point of reference for perfumery and the olfactory arts. The protagonist of the expo, which is curated by Pitti Immagine, is perfume in every form: a universe of flavours, colours and scents that brings visitors, buyers and journalists from all over the world to Florence every year. Fragranze presents the most precious essences, the result of artisanal quality research, the latest new products in terms of beauty, beauty care and body care products, but also cosmetics and accessories by the most important brands on the international panorama.
Festival Puccini – Torre del Lago Puccini
“International opera festival in honour of Giacomo Puccini”
Founded in 1930, Festival Puccini in Torre del Lago has, over the years, become a music and opera date not to be missed as well as the world’s only festival dedicated to composer Giacomo Puccini. Festival Puccini takes place every July and August in Torre del Lago, in the locations that inspired Maestro Puccini and his unforgettable melodies
At Festival Puccini it is possible to listen to Giacomo Puccini’s most famous works in a large open-air theatre on the shores of the lake: Madame Butterfly, Turandot, La Bohème, Tosca and Manon Lescaut. staged by the world’s most important conductors.

June and July sees Estate Fiesolana, traditional outdoor festival in the splendid setting of Fiesole’s Roman theatre, in the hills near Florence. Estate Fiesolana is an important date in the history of Italian entertainment: over nearly a century, its prestigious setting has seen performances by some of the most important names in theatre, dance, music and cinema at world level.
La 50 Giorni del cinema a Firenze
The festival about international film festivals
Tuscany has always been home to film, inspiring great directors to choose it as the ideal film set. In particular, Florence is a protagonist of international film with its 50 Giorni, held between October and December at the Odeon cinema in Piazza Strozzi. Nine international festivals one after the other, with Italian film previews – in the original, with subtitles – presented by their directors or leading actors.
France Odeon, as is traditional, is the first of the festivals to be shown, with a rich programme that has been bringing the best of contemporary French film to Florence for seven editions.
This is followed by other festivals, such as Lo Schermo dell’Arte Film Festival – an international contemporary art and film festival setting Florence at the heart of the international cultural scene – and Festival dei Popoli / Festival Internazionale del Film Documentario – the most important date with international documentary films.

Lucca Comics is an international festival dedicated to comics, gaming and illustrations, held in the centre of Lucca every year. At Lucca Comics every year it is possible to meet with world comic masters, admire exhibitions dedicated to the ninth art, and visit the stands of Italian and international comic publishers.
Cortona On The Move

Cortona On The Move – travel photography was set up in 2011 to bring excellence in contemporary photography to Florence, celebrating great artists and making the most of historic archives.
Since its first edition, Cortona and its festival have attracted a great deal of attention from professionals in the business, thanks to its marked international vocation, to its ten major exhibitions and six from the OFF circuit. The splendid landscapes of Cortona, an ancient town in the Tuscan countryside, form the setting for exhibitions by the most important photographers from Italy and the rest of the world, as well as for workshops with professionals in contemporary photography. Called the “best festival in Europe if not the whole world”, the On the Move festival has brought some of the biggest names in contemporary photography to Cortona.

Carnevale di Viareggio

Five large Masked Parades, in a single month of great celebrations in the period of February and March.
